My Shameless Obsession With Urban Decay: The Bamboo Palettte

This one... This one was sent to me by a really lovely woman I won a giveaway from on Instagram. She actually sent this one to me about two weeks after I received my first package. Why did she send it? Because I made a post asking for recommendations for summer makeup because I knew I was going to need waterproof things for Warped Tour and our summer vacation coming up. The Bamboo Palette (Sustainable Shadow Box?)
Year Sold- 2009 (Maybe after then)
Year Received- 2015

Packaging- No this is really inconvenient. It doesn't have a magnet that keeps it close so it just swings around. I obviously haven't messed with stability much but to be honest it doesn't have a good mirror, it doesn't have a good closure, and I understand why Urban Decay doesn't make things like this anymore.

Swatches and Color Reviews!

YDK- A really soft cool toned brown with golden

shimmers and a frosted finish. Perfect color for 

darkening up the outer corner without being too

dramatic or smokey.

Flipside- More on the teal side of blue, but not straight

up teal. I'd call this a mermaid blue. It's not as opaque

as you'd expect but it's still lovely.

Grifter- I love everything about this color except

the crazy silver glitter. I've found I can put the product

on the brush and blow the chunks of glitter off,

leaving me only with the color. It's a silver

purple shade that is a nice wash of color that 

still has a nice pigment to it.

Uzi- Similar to Grifter with the nuts silver glitter,

except I don't really like the white. If I had to choose

an Urban Decay white shadow I'd have to say

Bobby Dazzle is much better.

Twice Baked- I actually don't like this color at all

it's chalky and not very well pigmented. Which makes

me pretty sad to be totally honest.

Midnight Cowboy Rides Again- Pretty, champagne, has

obnoxious glitter and is a more beige version of Maui Wowie.

The glitter is slightly more bearable than most of 

the other glitter shadows in this palette

but not by much.

Flash- If you take Grifter and take out the silver

aspect that's what this color is. If you put both

on your lid there isn't much of a difference

except maybe the finish of it.

Half Baked- See my Naked palette review for my

thoughts on this one. 

Kiddie Pool- I adore this blue with my life.

I think honestly I'll use it more as a pop

of color here and there rather than all over

my lid, but it's a lovely aqua blue.

Oilslick- A matte black shadow with glitter.

It's not as black as Blackout and not 

shimmery enough for me to like it more

than the black from the Pulp Fiction palette.

Overall this is a great summer palette. I am once again so grateful to Tina for sending it my way. Look forward to a series we've got in the works to collab on together about makeup for different age groups. Make sure you check her out.

My Shameless Obsession With Urban Decay: Pulp Fiction Palette

We've come to the first Urban Decay product that I actually bought myself. I spent the two months of my blog eyeing this palette. It went on sale sometime around then for half of its original price, and while 16 dollars for an limited edition UD palette is a steal, I had Christmas presents to buy other people, and so I moved on. I was pleasantly surprised in late December, the palette was still available and on sale! Not only was it on sale, but it's sale price was on sale! I managed to pick up this baby for an extra 20% off. My patience paid off and I only paid $12.80 for this gorgeous palette. Sorry for the enthusiasm but I have been waiting months to gush about this. Great sales are how I (and I'm sure most other makeup lovers) justify my addiction.

Pulp Fiction Palette

What the original palette looked like.

Packaging- Okay I love this in a million different ways. First of all I obviously love the Pulp Fiction quote, the logo, and the embossed UD is pretty dang nifty, okay? Okay. Also, this thing is sturdy as heck. I know cardboard can be kinda an iffy thing for some people but you know what? I've sat on this palette. Meaning it can take a whole lot of pressure and still look fine. The mirror on the inside is perfect and that little brush? Perfect. I see this as a travel palette, and I'm not the only person to liken the type of shades to the Naked basics palette. Christine discusses the similarities here.

Swatches and Color Reviews!

Righteous- First let's talk shadow quality. All of 
the shadows in this palette are crazy creamy, but 
I'm much more excited about this particular color's
consistency because it can be hard to find a matte that 

isn't powdery. As for the color, it is a cream color with a

 yellow/peach undertone. The picture seems to cancel 

out that peach note, but it's there.

Tyranny- This color is really unfortunately too orange
for me. It's a pretty color and I definitely will still wear
it but I'm not a big fan of warm toned eye shadows, and
will definitely choose Urban Decay's Naked over this.
It has the same smooth consistency and is a matte
finish as well.

Vengeance- Now this color I love. It's much cooler than
Tyranny and has a satin finish, which is always nice.
I love that the browns in this palette have an almost
ombre thing going on. Makes achieving a very natural
look so easy!

Anger- Black, Sparkly, better pigmentation and texture
than Urban Decay Creep but no where near Blackout.
I do like that it has a bit of sparkle but not glitters.

Furious- This is the prettiest white color I own okay???
It's a very pearlescent white with a cool undertone.
As you can see my forearm is basically the same color
white so all you can see are the shimmers but I think
this is the perfect color for the inner corners of the eyes.

There must have been some sort of manufacture error because I just realized that Furious is supposed to be over top of Anger in my palette, which would make it much easier to not get the white muddied with the black. Oh well, I guess that just makes this limited edition even more limited edition! Over all I like this palette, though I may not use it all that often thanks to my love for the bold. I'm definitely glad I have it in my collection for those days I feel like doing a 'my face but better' look. Plus who can resist something based off the beauty of this fabulous woman?

5 Dupes for Urban Decay's Naked Line

Here's my problem with the Naked line. It's dupable. So so easily dupable. Almost every single cosmetic company has a version of the Urban Decay product you may have your eye on. This makes me sad because rather than taking the next logical step and moving on to something that you aren't seeing everywhere, Urban Decay seemed to spend their whole 2014 year promoting this line, and as 2015 rolls in that trend has continued with an even larger expansion on the Naked line. We get it, we're supposed to try to fool people into thinking that your cheeks are that perfect shade of coral, your cheek bones sparkle, and your eyelids are perfectly rose gold. Absolutely naked face. No one is fooled but still...

So please, I'm praying that in 2015 we'll be moving on, and there'll be more exciting and inspiring products to come. Below are 5 dupes to popular products that further prove the "Naked" craze needs to find it's way out (in my opinion). Leave the neutrals to basically just about everyone else, Urban Decay.

My Shameless Obsession With Urban Decay: The Naked Palette

Today's in depth discussion and review is on the Naked palette.

Which I've discussed already, so to be honest I'm not super excited to be doing it. But a promise is a promise so a review is going to happen. Let's jump right in (this was another one that was gifted to me)!

The Naked Palette

Year Sold- Still available for purchase

Year Received- 2014

What the brand new palette looked like.

Packaging- I have to say while I like the size of this palette I do not like the material on the outside. It's an odd velvet type fabric, and I feel like it just picks up and keeps any extra product that may be in your makeup bag. I've seen it where other bloggers have it and the gold of the letters has worn off and honestly while it is a very versatile palette, the outside is just... inconvenient. If it weren't for the fact that part of having an Urban Decay collection is the packaging (well in my opinion), I'd definitely depot this palette.

Swatches and Color Reviews!

Sin- Definitely the best under brow bone color.

 Some people might say Virgin is best for that but I prefer

 one without so much shimmer. Sin is a very pretty peach 

color with a slightly more matte than Virgin finish.

Virgin- This wants to be my favorite color. 

It's a light pink and you will find out that I am

kinda obsessed with light pink eye shadow.

It has a very shimmery finish, but unfortunately on 

my eyes none of the pink comes out, just the shimmer.

I've tried layering it over a white base but I just

find it makes it look a little cakey.

Naked- The most versatile color in this dang palette. 

This is the perfect natural color for me. I like

to put Naked all over the lid and Buck in the

crease for a "no makeup" makeup look.

Sidecar- Sparkles! Oh the sparkles! This is one

 of the shimmery colors that I actually enjoy wearing.

I don't mess around with the darker colors in the palette really

but this is an almost pink based neutral with some shimmer

and I love it.

Buck- Second most versatile color. Chocolate brown.

It's a great crease color and lovely matte.

Half Baked- You know what? Everyone is insanely obsessed

with this color and I am not that impressed. Its

a really yellow gold which is not my color which 

probably explains my lack of enthusiasm.

Smog- Dark brown with gold shimmer/duochrome. 

It's a more unique color from this palette and while very

pretty, more on the warm side. 

Dark Horse- I went to write this and all I could

think about was the stupid song. This is a 

pretty color with a matte base and gold glitters in it.

I like to use this color as a liner (wet with half a drop
of eye solution).

Toasted- I spent a good week doing a look that
heavily used this color. If you know me, that's
a big deal because I see everyday as an
opportunity to try something new. This
is a very shimmer pinky bronze shade.

Hustle- A more cool toned brown for this palette.

It has some shimmer but not straight up glitter.

I can't remember actively deciding to use this

color, though I have probably used it on my lower

lash line.

Creep- Yeah I've never used this color on myself.

It's a shimmery "black" which really only comes off

as a grey. Overall it's not very exciting and I will

always choose a matte black over a shimmer wanna-be black.

Gunmetal- Another color I've never used on myself. 

Metallic/shimmery dark greys never really inspired me

much so I don't ever reach for it. I just find it to be

a blah color.

Over all is this a "holy grail" palette? Yes. Does that make me super excited about owning it? Not really. Since my cannon ball into the beauty world I've found I prefer a wider array of options than just neutrals, and am more likely to use this palette in combination with another than just it on its own (though it is absolutely possible to do that no problem).

My Shameless Obsession With Urban Decay: The Fun Palette

When I was little, I was completely desperate to wear makeup. So much so that I used to sneak little smudges of eyeliner or smears of mascara on my lashes to see if I could get away with it. The answer is, I could not. Finally, I hit the magic number of 13, and I was allowed to wear simple eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. It wasn't until 14 that I really wanted to wear more than that. We went to the Sephora store inside of JCPenny's and let the lady at my face. Unwrapping wasn't really a surprise, except for one item. I received my first Urban Decay palette. And it allllllll went downhill from there. Through the years I've collected a slightly ridiculous amount of Urban Decay (particularly in the past year), and was at a loss for new blog posts. Which is how this big week of swatches, reviews, and general rambling came about. We'll start from my oldest palette to my most recent.

The Fun Palette

What the brand new palette looked like

Packaging- As far as packaging goes, I love the zipped Urban Decay palettes. A lot of people don't like them but I find them superior for traveling. In the two or so years I've had this palette I've dropped it, stepped on it (yes, stepped on it), and brought it with me on every single vacation I've been on, meaning it's been through being thrown around and absolutely crushed. Yes, the mirror has broken, that was the side effect of stepping on it. However, putting a hundred lbs. worth of pressure on it didn't bust or break any of the eye shadows. I'm pretty sad I lost the lip gloss to this (pretty positive it got left in a hotel room in Amsterdam), because the Lip Junkie gloss was absolutely gorgeous. I'm even considering buying the full size version. Another really cool thing about this palette in particular is you can remove the whole block of eye shadows and use the case as a clutch.

Dupe Alert: Urban Decay Deep End

A few weeks ago I picked up the Neo Perle eyeshadow journal set by Profusion. I purchased two of these from Ulta for $2.99 each. Each journal includes 15 eyeshadows in a cute book with a magnetic closure. They also have different color themes depending on which one you buy. In the journal with the blue sparkly color I found what I think is a pretty close dupe to Urban Decay's Deep End.

I recieved the Urban Decay LE Fun pallet a couple years ago for Christmas, though I've only really used the two nuetral colors included (Stray Dog and Sellout) up until recently. I'm sure these eyeshadows are going to last me forever, but when I do run out I've found an amazing replacement for my favorite color.



Without a side by side comparison, Deep End and the Neo Perle color look almost exactly the same color. However, when placed next to each other you can totally see the small difference. Deep End has a bit more luster than its dupe. When applied there's the same type of difference. Both colors have a satin finish, but Deep End seems to be less changed in color by the shimmer than the Profusion shadow.

In the end, I would absolutely recommend the Profusion pallet, For 3 buck you get 15 shadows with impeccable quality for their price. Their application very much reminds me of Urban Decay, with very few powdery colors.
